Caviar20 has a strong interest in sculptors who are simultaneously active printmakers. We believe that prints are an accessible introduction to an artist's three-dimensional world. 

Jean Arp (1886-1966), also known as Hans, is an important contributor to the avant-garde of the 20th century. During the key years leading up to and defining European Modernism, Jean Arp was there.

Arp worked in numerous European cities at key moments when artistic movements were being defined.

However it is his association with both Dada and Surrealism, from the end of World War 1 until the 1930's, that he is best known for. As one begins to explore his oeuvre, it is remarkable how he is also one of the earliest artists to embrace abstraction. 

"Idole" is a paradigm of Arp's minimalist designs executed in a dynamic, timeless and chic palette. This color woodcut was created as part of the "e" portfolio, which consisted of 9 works by different artists and was printed by Louis Broder in Paris. Each work was made as an edition of 70. Other artists who created works for this portfolio include Alberto Giacometti, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso.
